About
For Jews, water symbolises ‘purification, renewal and spiritual connection’ (Fried Z. 2023) There is a ritual called Tashlich in which we gather near a natural water source such as: a lake or a river and symbolically discard any wrong doings we've inflicted upon ourselves or others.
This phrase depicts someone who is able to gracefully deal with ups and downs within life.
Whilst my need for re-regulation did not derive from a self inflicting cause, water has been used in my collection, as a way to advocate for the renewal of one’s mindset and purification of any debilitating coping mechanisms which could have been picked up due to being in a prolonged survival mode.
Throughout this project, I primarily focused on waterscapes and objects nearby water, documenting how I worked through traumatic events as a Jew with ADHD and why the slow dopamine cycle is essential to one’s well being.
